What is a Bahr?
A Bahr is a fixed rhythmic pattern that runs through every line of a poem. It is built by repeating one or more Arkaan (feet) in a set order. When a poet says a Kalam is “in Bahr-e-Ramal”, they mean its lines follow the Ramal pattern.
Wazan — the weight of words
Wazan is the measured weight of syllables. In Aruuz, each syllable is either short or long, and the arrangement of these weights must match the Bahr. Two lines are “ham-wazan” when they carry the same metrical weight.
